CICT Chairman keynotes 1st Philippine eGovernance Forum; cites role of ICT in initiating change toward good governance
“As the experience of the last few years has shown, there is hope in initiating change through ICT (Information and Communications Technology). With our combined efforts, the vision of good governance and true citizen engagement can become a reality.”
These were the words of Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III in this keynote speech before some 200 chief information officers (CIOs) and heads of IT organizations in government and the private sector on the opening day of the First Philippine eGovernance Forum held at the Hotel Intecontinental in Makati City last June 21-22, 2010.
Sec. Chua specifically lauded the holding of the first nationwide automated elections conducted last May 10, calling it “the Philippines’ biggest and most recent success with regard to e-governance” and “an incredibly ambitious project for the Philippine government.”
Chairman Chua also asked the participants to be “. . . steadfast partners in our mission to bring good governance to the Filipino people, and in the midst of the transition to the new administration, we ask your support once again, as we travel the new road and face new challenges”.
The eGovernance Forum, which was organized jointly by the Chief Information Officers Forum (CIOF) and the CIOF Foundation, with funding support from the e3 Project of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), as well as partner organizations from the business sector, is planned to be the first of what would be an annual event to celebrate ICT month and the giving of awards to outstanding ICT initiatives in government.
